"What's an ABC?" you ask..."The alphabet?!" Nope! ABC stands for Asset Building Classrooms. The 2011-2012 school year is the first of what STEPS and Southington Schools hopes to be many in the partnership to help build assets in our youth. The idea: building assets is easy and anyone can do it! Our wonderful teachers have been making strong connections with students all along -- now we're making connections with PURPOSE. All staff faculty from teachers to counselors to administrators to security have been building assets since September...and in the most simplistic and sustainable ways such as saying hello to a student by name and asking how their weekend was. It is not difficult or time consuming yet it creates a more positive work environment and connects a positive role model to a student who may need an outlet for support. ABC is not curriculum but a philosophy!
