Super Bowl Sunday: It's not just about football…

The Drug-Free Action Alliance [DFAA] has conducted extensive research to express the concern involving alcohol advertisement. The scary truth revels that the more youth are exposed to alcohol advertising, the more likely they are to consume alcohol underage.

The NFL, and especially the NFL Super Bowl is well known for its commercials, particularly commercials advertising alcohol and related products. Their appeal with humor, color and music is undeniable to their target audiences. However, there is a hidden issue with such commercials. 18% of the Super Bowl’s audience is under the age of 21.

Peter Webinar said that usually there are 58 commercials shown throughout the infamous Sunday game. Budweiser® usually holds 8 to 10 of them!

The DFAA needs teens to “GET IN THE GAME!” Students are actively contributing to research by answering just two short questions after the big game. Last year, over 35,000 middle school and high school students in 42 states participated to help educate the US population on the effects of alcohol advertising on youth.

“To further assess the impact of advertising on youth, we invite you to participate in the DFAA BIG BOWL VOTE 2012. Through a simple, two-question, student questionnaire given Monday morning following the Super Bowl, middle and high school students share their impressions on what advertisements they remember seeing and which commercial was their favorite,” DFAA said.

To take the simple, two-question student questionnaire, visit the following link: http://www.drugfreeactionalliance.org/files/bbvquestion2012.pdf ...You’ll receive results just days after the Super Bowl!

To gain access to instant feedback on the ads from youth, DFAA will be encouraging middle and high school students to TWEET about their favorite and not-so-favorite commercials, during and after the big game.Follow them on Twitter @DrugFreeAction and TWEET your Super Bowl thoughts!
